Broadway Comes to Wilmington

Bringing Broadway to Wilmington

The Cape Fear region brings Broadway to theater-lovers.

These days, you don’t have to look any further than downtown Wilmington to see your favorite Broadway shows live on the stage. Wilmington is one of 191 cities chosen to premiere Broadway features and traveling tours. Now in its seventh season, the Wilson Center at Cape Fear Community College will host ten Broadway shows with multiple performances beginning in October 2022.

What’s Coming Up

This year, Broadway superfans will recognize favorites such as Tootsie, The Book of Mormon, and Annie performed on a brand-new stage. With access to world-class musical theater paired with coastal living and our laid-back culture, you can like the life you’re living AND you can live the life you like. Oh, did we mention Chicago will be playing in March 2023?

The Wilson Center

The luxurious Wilson Center, built in 2015, can hold over 1500 patrons per show in its rows of red velvet seats and is the perfect venue to relax and enjoy Broadway’s best talent. Its glistening windows and contemporary architecture have become an iconic part of the Wilmington skyline on view from the riverwalk.

A Haven for the Arts

The Broadway tour at the Wilson Center has been transformative for the culture of Southeastern North Carolina. The performing arts center has not only welcomed guests from all 100 counties of North Carolina, but all fifty states as well, establishing Wilmington as a center of culture in the Cape Fear area.

The Wilson Center also donates hundreds of free tickets to local nonprofits. This is so children can experience musical theater for the first time. The performances are an amazing educational opportunity for students at Cape Fear Community college who work in all departments of the theater from ticketing to tech. In addition to Broadway tours, the Wilson center also hosts performances by elite musicians and comedians while still allowing space for local artists as well.

Make it Part of Your Experience

For a romantic, theatrical evening, enjoy a fresh seafood dinner and sunset on the riverwalk before ambling (or driving) to the Wilson Center. Mouth along to “Tomorrow” during the Tony-award-winning production of Annie or dance all night with My Fair Lady. Rest assured when the evening is through, you will already be lining up tickets to the next show.
